Joint GCC drill kicks off in Qatar

DOHA: The joint GCC security field exercise “Arabian Gulf Security 4” began in Qatar on Sunday, with the participation of security agencies and forces from Gulf Cooperation Council states, alongside specialized security units from the United States.


Kuwait’s interior ministry said in a statement that the exercise aims to enhance security readiness, strengthen integration and field coordination, and test the efficiency of operational plans and response mechanisms, reflecting the advanced capabilities and professionalism of GCC security agencies. The exercise will continue until Feb 4 and includes the execution of more than 70 training scenarios, amounting to over 260 hours of intensive field training.


The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Qatari Interior Minister and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al-Thani. It was attended by Qatari Interior Ministry Undersecretary Abdullah Al-Kaabi and GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Security Affairs Brig Gen Hamad Al-Ammimi.


Kuwait was represented by the Chairman of the Supreme Exercise Committee and Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations Affairs Brig Abdullah Al-Ateeqi, Vice Chairman Col Yousuf Al-Meshal and Field Exercise Commander Col Mohammed Al-Attar, alongside senior security officials from GCC states. The exercise is designed to enhance preparedness and collective response to a wide range of security challenges. — KUNA
